Indian Cooking at Home
Do you love Indian food, but never thought you could prepare it at home?  We’ll be demystifying favorite dishes like chicken tikka masala, shrimp with spices, stewed lentils (dal) and spinach with fresh cheese (palak paneer).  We’ll also be making several vegetable dishes, chutneys and relishes.  You’ll leave with an Indian spice “cheat sheet” and shopping tips.  We’ll be using Madhur Jaffrey’s An Invitation to Indian Cooking as our reference for this class.

Saturday, August 7, 1-4pm
Yes, You Can ... Can!
Preserving summer produce through canning is a great way to save some the freshest fruit and vegetables to enjoy later in the year. We’ll be pulling from the fresh, seasonal produce at the farmers’ market for this class.  You’ll learn the principles of boiling water canning, how to “quick pickle” and make jam.  After our hands-on afternoon, you’ll leave with several jars of delicious, vegetables, jams, chutneys or relishes as well as recipes for everything we’ve prepared. Eugenia Bone’s Well Preserved and Linda Ziedrich’s Joy of Pickling are our guides for this class.  Students should bring a paring knife, a chef's knife and a small cutting board to class.

Friday, August 13, 6-9pm
Cooking from the Farmers’ Market: Summer Edition
Join us for this class celebrating summer produce during which we’ll be using local produce to prepare a beautiful, delicious and filling meal. During class, we’ll discuss tips for selecting the freshest produce and storing it when you get home.  Our companion books for this class will be Mark Bittman’s How to Cook Everything Vegetarian and Gourmet Magazine’s Gourmet Today.
